Hokora in the field

This is an exhibition room for Olafur Eliasson's work "Mirror my orgasmic journey in me," located on a farm operated by an agricultural production corporation. The work is characterized by a form reminiscent of the figure of Buddha, created by countless circles. Therefore, we chose an area under a large tree on the side of the field as the site location, and built a shrine for farmers to pray for a good harvest.
The building is positioned so that the western sun shines perpendicularly through the high-side aperture during the sunset in the spring and summer.
Beside the field is a sacred forest that surrounds the water source. Beneath one of the large trees stands the exhibition room, which serves as a small shrine.
In the old days, every region had small shrines beside the fields where people prayed for a good harvest. This exhibition room is a shrine for the people who work here.
The work is enshrined inside a sphere 4m in diameter.
Made by colored mirror glasses, the viewer's face appears in the same position as the work's face, creating a space where the viewer can have a dialogue with oneself.
Inside the sphere, filled with a homogeneous light as a celestial body, the artwork is displayed in a ganzfeld that creates halo effect or ring of light. Behind the artwork, the high-side lets in the light of the setting sun, which changes moment by moment and envelops people like a halo, creating a meditation space where one can experience Nissokan, a Buddhist meditation method of gazing at the setting sun to feel the teachings of the Buddha.
